What Aviation Ground School Covers

Ground school is the knowledge half of flight training — everything you must understand before the FAA written test and, more importantly, before real decisions in the air. Our curriculum tracks the FAA's Airman Certification Standards and covers:

• Aerodynamics and aircraft systems — why airplanes fly, what makes them stall, and how engines, electrical systems, and flight controls actually work.
• Aviation weather — reading forecasts and charts, understanding the marine layer and Santa Ana winds that define Los Angeles flying, and knowing when not to fly.
• Navigation and flight planning — sectional charts, GPS and pilotage, fuel planning, and cross-country logistics across California.
• Federal Aviation Regulations — the rules that govern certificates, airspace, and pilot responsibility, taught with real-world cases instead of memorization.
• Airspace and communication — decoding LA's famously layered airspace and speaking confidently with air traffic control.
• Aeromedical factors and decision-making — hypoxia, spatial disorientation, and the judgment frameworks that keep pilots out of statistics.

The course prepares you directly for the FAA written knowledge test — 60 questions, 70% to pass — with practice exams until you are consistently scoring well above the line.
