Why a modern trainer changes everything

Most training airplanes were designed generations ago. The Diamond DA20 was not. Its composite airframe, low-drag wing, and clear bubble canopy come from a newer school of aircraft design — one focused on visibility, efficiency, and a control feel that makes flying genuinely fun.

Powered by a 125-horsepower Continental and sipping fuel like a glider, the DA20 keeps your costs down while giving you a responsive, honest airplane that builds precise stick-and-rudder skills. It is a trainer you will actually look forward to flying.

Why Pilots Choose It

Six reasons the DA20 stands out

🔭

A canopy you see the world through

The wraparound bubble canopy gives visibility no high-wing trainer can match — a real safety and situational-awareness advantage over busy Los Angeles airspace.

🏎️

Honest, sports-car feel

Light, responsive controls and a center stick make the DA20 a joy to hand-fly and a superb teacher of precise, coordinated flying.

🧱

Composite, zero corrosion

Its bonded composite structure does not corrode like aluminum, keeping the airframe strong, smooth, and reliable year after year.

Glider-grade efficiency

A slick, low-drag wing means the DA20 flies far on very little fuel — lower operating cost for you and longer training flights.

🛡️

Forgiving and spin-certified

Predictable, gentle handling at the edges of the envelope makes it a confidence-building airplane for early lessons.

✈️

Proven by the Air Force

The DA20 series was chosen for U.S. Air Force introductory flight screening — a strong endorsement of its value as a primary trainer.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is the DA20 a good first airplane?
It is one of the best. Forgiving handling, superb visibility, and a fun, responsive feel make it an excellent primary trainer that builds precise flying skills from day one.
What engine does it have?
A 125-horsepower Continental IO-240. Paired with the DA20's efficient airframe, it delivers lively performance while keeping fuel and operating costs low.
Why composite instead of aluminum?
The bonded composite structure does not corrode, stays smooth and strong over time, and allows the aerodynamically clean shape that gives the DA20 its glider-like efficiency.
Is the bubble canopy really that different?
Yes. The wraparound canopy gives outstanding all-around visibility — a genuine advantage for traffic awareness and for simply enjoying the view over Los Angeles.
Can I train all the way to Commercial in it?
The DA20 is ideal for the Private certificate and for building precise skills and hours. As you advance you will transition into our complex Arrow and other aircraft to complete commercial requirements.
How much does it cost to fly?
Our package rate is $229 per hour for the aircraft. Ask us for a personalized estimate based on your certificate goal and how often you plan to fly.
